What’s in a kiss?

It’s such a simple action, everyone knows how to kiss- it’s instinct but I think kissing has lost its  meaning over the years.

You know in those soppy romantic films? The ones where you watch the girl and the boy fall in love after dealing with all these struggles and problems, tears and heartache? The most important part of those films is the kiss. Usually right at the end of the film, with an upbeat song in the background, the boy leans in and kisses the girl and it just seems perfect. It’s as if they’re the most important thing in the world in that moment. I’m only young but I know full well I will never experience a kiss that makes me feel like that.

Kissing nowadays is almost as casual as saying hello. You cant expect to do any kind of social activity without someone hooking up with someone. Parties, gatherings or anything that involves alcohol will enivitably mean that someone will end up being kissed and although we are still yound and this is what youth does, the romantic in me feels as if that isn’t enough. I grew up expecting every kiss to be like the perfect-movie-being-swept-of-my-feet-kissed-in-the-rain-world-becomes-a-blur kiss and so far- nothing. I think in the society I live in, kissing isn’t a significant romantic stand-alone action but more just a prelude to sex or even just a casual ‘activity’ as such.

I dont think its fair to say romance is dead but in my generation- it’s certainly dying.

Being a student sucks

I cannot remember the last time I had a good nights sleep. I work from deadline to deadline and once I finally finish the course-work for one subject I am then forced to immediately focus on another. I’m pining for summer! hopefully this will all be worth it though, no-one becomes successful in life without trying right? Anyways, I’ve just finished a  watercolour painting I was doing today for my portfolio and thought I’d share it. The girl who I drew is my best friend and she was remarkably talented at crying on demand. Hope you like it!

My “Bucket List”

When I was eight I was given a book called “101 things to do before you die” for Christmas. Whilst tidying up my room earlier this week I found this book among many of other exciting and embarrassing trinkets. What excited me the most about finding this book is my younger self’s sheer dedication to completing the “101 things” that I had accepted should be done before my death. At the end of the book there is a checklist where you can track how many ‘things’ you have completed and I had completed about 40 of these. Honestly most of the things on the checklist where trivial and suited to a younger audience but it’s hard to forget that I had this book on my bedside table for about a year and was ecstatic whenever I could tick another activity off. And so, with some nostalgia I decided to create my own bucket list.

So this is what I’ve come up with so far:

  1. Run some kind of marathon
  2. Go horseback riding along the beach
  3. Learn how to use a gun
  4. Learn sign language
  5. Teach abroad
  6. Sing on a Broadway stage
  7. Slow dance with someone
  8. Ride in a helicopter
  9. Swim with dolphins
  10. Adopt a dog from a shelter
  11. Ride a camel
  12. Ride an elephant
  13. See the Amazon rainforest
  14. See the Taj-Mahal
  15. Build a doll house
  16. Take up calligraphy
  17. Walk on the red carpet
  18. Have a spa weekend
  19. Fall in love
  20. Paint a mural
  21. Write a book
  22. Learn to make cocktails
  23. See a psychic
  24. Get a tattoo
  25. Throw someone a surprise party
  26. Ride in a hot air balloon
  27. See the northern lights
  28. Go to a wine tasting
  29. Sing a duet with a famous singer
  30. Ride in a police car
  31. Spend a night in the Ice hotel
  32. Gamble in Vegas
  33. Ride a banana boat
  34. Be kissed in the pouring rain
  35. Star in a movie
  36. Wear a wedding dress I designed to my wedding
  37. Climb Everest
  38. Illustrate a children’s book
  39. Host a dinner party
  40. Be fluent in another language

I know a lot of the list seems unadventurous and boring but I guess these things are personal, any suggestions for me? what would be top of your list? I’m hoping I still have a while left to complete my list and anything else I add to it!
